Senior Communication major Kacie McChesney’s film “Oasis,” about a road trip gone wrong, took home the top prize of Best Picture at Arizona Christian University’s inaugural Firestorm Film Festival, held May 19th at Picture Show in Paradise Valley Mall. The red carpet event showcased the films of ACU’s graduating Communication majors.

Senior Communication major Elizabeth Godfrey’s film “With Sugar” won three awards, including Best Director for Godfrey, Best Acting for Lilia Cosavalente, and the “Get a Grip” Award, going to Stephen Simms for service behind the camera. Other winners included Shanie McChesney for Best Screenplay for “The Unforgotten Dream” and Benjamin Newitt for Best Music Composition for the film “Identity.”

Arizona Christian University and the Department of Communication and English would like to thank the Picture Show at Paradise Valley Mall for their support of the inaugural Firestorm Film Festival. The event would not have been possible without the additional sponsorship and support of Pure Flix Entertainment, Brand Cure, The Arizona Coyotes Foundation, Arizona Private Education Scholarship Fund, Connect the Dots Promotions, Illuminated Collective, Raising Cane’s and other private donors. Future sponsorship opportunities are available by contacting Arizona Christian University’s Advancement Office.
