To better reflect its new home at Arizona Christian University (ACU) , RadioShine 90.9 has become Arizona Shine 90.9 – Truth That Inspires. The Prescott-based contemporary Christian radio station, which was named “2013 Small Market Station of the Year” by the Christian Music Broadcasters, was gifted to ACU in 2012 by its nonprofit board.
RadioShine was previously controlled by Grand Canyon Broadcasting, Inc. Now a member of the ACU Board of Trustees, Grand Canyon Broadcasting’s Chairman Roger Camping believed the two organizations would be stronger together, and that the station’s future ability to fulfill its Christian purpose would be best-served by the station becoming part of a Christian university. After the transfer of control was approved earlier this year by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which regulates all radio and television broadcasting, the station is now able to change its name and visual identity to reflect this new relationship.
While Arizona Shine will continue to broadcast out of Prescott, its signal reaches the western regions of Maricopa County, from Wickenburg to Scottsdale. Through ACU’s relationship with the station, renewed energy will be spent raising awareness of the station in this area.
“We are blessed with exceptional on-air talent, which will remain the same at Arizona Shine as it is today,” said ACU President Len Munsil. “As the station grows in the Valley and through its relationship with Arizona Christian University, we will work hard to meet the needs of our growing listenership.”
Through the relationship with ACU, trusted and loyal donors will also have an impact on the lives of Christian students through their continued support of Arizona Shine. Associated with the University’s communication program, Arizona Shine will provide educational and experiential opportunities for young broadcasters entering the media industry.
