Those who visit ACU’s campus this semester cannot believe the changes that continue to occur before their very eyes. Just since the semester break we have added new classrooms, built a baseball field and opened up a logo shop. Our facilities and maintenance staff have been busy. Here are a few highlights of our changes that have occurred in just the last two months.
The portable classrooms in the heart of campus were torn down on December 8 to make way for the baseball field, which was completed for the opening day activities on February 10. The back lot went from a dust bowl to a lush green field of dreams, thanks to the leadership of VP Don Mitchell and his staff, including Lyle Pearson and Frank Hendricks. If you haven’t seen this campus improvement, you need to stop by campus for a tour. Better yet, stop by for a game. The schedule is available on our website.
With the loss of the portables, the school needed to create instructional space on campus. One of the buildings that served as apartments for student living has now been converted into two labs for praise bands, a piano lab and a general classroom to better serve the students and faculty in the music department. Everyone associated with the program is grateful to have a space they can call their own.
The Phoenix is the name of the new logo/snack shop on campus. It is a place where students and guests can buy logo wear and other ACU swag. We are in the process of getting that facility renovated to sell smoothies, coffee drinks and snacks. This change will give students and staff the opportunity to get their caffeine fix while engaging in great conversation on the outdoor patio. We are in need of a shade structure in that area and are open to ideas and resources from the community on how to get that accomplished.
These are just a few of the highlights of physical plant changes on our campus, which are a representation of the many improvements occurring throughout the university. We are grateful for all that we see happening in the hearts and lives of our students. God’s hand of blessing continues to be evident in every corner of campus. We are grateful to him for his blessings and to the Christian community for their support of the mission of ACU.
