Trustees Appoint Len Munsil as Permanent President of Arizona Christian University

The Arizona Christian University Board of Trustees announced today that interim President Len Munsil has agreed to remain as permanent President of the regionally accredited, four-year Christian liberal arts university that recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Munsil was appointed the school’s 6th President on Sept. 27, 2010, for a two-year term, while the school – then known as Southwestern College – looked for a permanent President.

“It was quickly apparent to most of us on the Board of Trustees that we had someone with the right vision, intellect, energy and Christian commitment to help us attract students and grow in excellence, influence and visibility,” said Paul Hendricks, ACU Board Chairman. “We are thrilled that President Munsil has agreed to lead us into our second half-century.”

During his first year in office, Munsil, among other things:

  • Proposed and implemented the Board’s decision to change the school’s name to Arizona Christian University in order to clearly reflect its purpose and location;
  • Proposed and succeeded in recruiting former President George W. Bush to speak at the school’s 50th anniversary celebration, attracting 1,260 attendees and hundreds of new supporters;
  • Improved faculty and staff salaries and benefits;
  • Led the school’s efforts to expand its educational course offerings with additional majors in the arts and sciences;
  • Helped the school surpass its annual fundraising goal of $1.4 million by more than $1 million;
  • Oversaw the acquisition of land and property that became the school’s Welcome Center at the SE corner of 25th St. and Cactus;
  • Increased the school’s commitment to affordability by raising student scholarships by 20 percent;
  • Proposed and initiated a program to provide incoming freshman with an iPad 2;
  • Helped recruit the largest freshman class in school history and presided over the largest total enrollment in school history;
  • Increased the school’s operational revenue by 28 percent year-to-year;
  • Started construction of a baseball field on campus;
  • Led ACU’s successful effort to join the nation’s premiere NAIA conference, the Golden State Athletic Conference, during the 2012-13 season.

“I am humbled by the Board’s vote of confidence, and grateful for the enthusiastic support I’ve received from students, faculty, staff, donors and the broader community,” Munsil said. “I look forward with humility to continuing to be a part of what God is doing at Arizona Christian University.”

Hey Len, I told your Dad that you were just too honest to be in politics but I did think you would be a wonderful President and I know you will. Grandma and I did think you would be a very special President of the United states! We did discuss it! Congrats!

His excellence was apparent to "most of" the Trustees?! With a list of accomplishments like that, I hope it's apparent to all of them by now. Congratulations, Len, and an even bigger congratulations to ACU!

As a former alum I have to say I am thrilled with the direction ACU (Southwestern) is taking. Thank you President Munsil for your leadership and accomplishments during your interim term. It will be hard to top what you've done so far but, God willing, we'll all see even more influence into our communities by ACU.
