Governor Nominates ACU Provost for Board Position

Arizona Christian University is pleased to announce that ACU Provost Gary P. Damore, Ed.D. , was confirmed by the Arizona State Senate after being nominated by Governor Brewer to serve on the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education (AZPPSE).

“We are thankful to Gov. Brewer for nominating Dr. Damore, to the Senate for confirming him, and could not be more proud of Dr. Damore for his commitment to higher education and his willingness to serve,” said ACU President Len Munsil. “Dr. Damore will bring great wisdom and experience to this important board, and we are excited to see ACU’s profile and influence continue to grow in the world of higher education in Arizona.”

Dr. Damore has a distinguished career in the Arizona educational system. After serving three years as the Chair of the Education Department at ACU, President Munsil elevated him to the position of Provost where he oversees the university’s academic affairs, student life and the admissions department. Prior to coming to ACU, Dr. Damore served eight years as the superintendent of a Phoenix-area private school, and before that served as principal at a Valley public high school. Dr. Damore began his career in education in 1974 as a teacher in the Paradise Valley Unified School District.

According to the Arizona State Senate, the  AZPPSE Board “licenses and regulates 192 private postsecondary educational institutions serving approximately 343,800 students annually,” as well as “determines compliance, investigates complaints and violations, and takes disciplinary action on all private postsecondary institutions that offer vocational and/or degree programs…”.

“It is an honor to have been selected to this post and to serve the people of Arizona in this capacity,” said Dr. Damore, who has his Doctor of Education in Leadership from Northern Arizona University.  “I have lived in Arizona most of my life and I have earned a reputation for being a leader in the field of education.  I have served in the K-12 arena as a public school teacher and administrator and private school administrator for 34 years prior to coming to ACU.  My work in the field of education from preschool through graduate school gives me a strong foundation from which to contribute to the future of higher education in the State, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”
