New Psychology Degree

Arizona Christian University is excited to announce the addition of the Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree program. The psychology degree strengthens an already thriving Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at ACU and prepares students to pursue graduate studies in the field of psychology. “Adding psychology as a program of study at ACU will not only strengthen our Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences, but will also add tremendous value to our Core: Christian Liberal Arts curriculum  at ACU,” said Dr. Paul Kremer, Dean of Academic Affairs. Required coursework includes Theories of Personality, Adolescent Psychology, Introduction to Neuroscience and more. AZ Shine New Program Director

Sally Barton, Arizona Shine Station Manager and Vice President of Media for Arizona Christian University, announced today that Fred Young has been named Arizona Shine Program Director.  Young brings to Arizona Shine 24 years of experience in broadcasting, and has been with Spirit FM, a network of eleven Christian stations in Camdenton, Missouri, for the past nine years. “With proficiencies in radio production, programming and promotions, Fred Young will be a vital addition to our team,” said Barton. “Every step of the way God has provided as we are steadfast in glorifying Him through Christ-centered programming; we look forward to utilizing Young’s extensive expertise.”  In addition to his duties as Afternoon Show Host/Assistant in Programming/Music, Young has been working to launch Spirit-FM’s internet radio station, The Pulse Channel, which will be available via full-power broadcast signal in late July. “I am thrilled to see what God has in store for us as we step into this new season with Arizona Shine,” said Young. “I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to join such a talented and dedicated staff, all motivated and pulling in the same direction to bring the Arizona Shine community into a deeper knowledge of and relationship with Christ!” Young and his wife Julie are parents of daughter Ashleigh, son Logan, and daughter Keira. Arizona Christian University is excited to announce that Christian Music Broadcasters has nominated our own Arizona Shine radio station for the prestigious 2014 Rob Gregory Community Service Award. This award, developed to honor Rob’s legacy, is presented annually to a station that shares his three-fold passion for his family, sharing Christ with others and excellence in broadcasting. “With a mission to strengthen and nurture healthy marriages, families and communities, Arizona Shine has the honor and privilege of carrying our Lord’s message of love and encouragement throughout our communities and beyond our borders,” said Sally Barton, Station Manager and Vice President of Media for Arizona Christian University. “The Rob Gregory Community Service Award speaks of the miraculous ways Christ Jesus has provided through Arizona Shine staff and volunteers, on air and in tangible outreach. We are humbled and most grateful.” One of five stations nominated for the national award, Arizona Shine encourages listeners to join the ministry in reaching out with acts of service and kindness. Poverty of Nations Class

Come hear one of the five most-requested speakers in the U.S. at Arizona Christian University! Starting this fall, Dr. Barry Asmus will be teaching a course at ACU based on his recent book, Poverty of Nations: A Sustainable Solution. Dr. Asmus’ Poverty of Nations class is an interdisciplinary elective based on his recent book,Poverty of Nations: A Sustainable Solution, co-authored with Dr. Wayne Grudem. Students will consider the potential of free-market and Scriptural principles to bring about economic, social, and spiritual change in nations around the world. The course focuses on the importance of personal freedom, the rule of law, private property, moral virtue, education, and biblical truth in promoting economic prosperity and safeguarding a country’s long-term stability. Students will investigate a variety of approaches — economic, political, cultural and spiritual — to address the problem of poverty around the world. The course is taught by Dr. Barry Asmus, Senior Economist with the National Center for Policy Analysis, Dr. Asmus is an advocate of free market economics. A dynamic and engaging educator, he was named by USA Today as one of the five most requested speakers in the United States. Dr. Asmus has been twice voted the Outstanding Professor of the Year and was also awarded the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge Award for Private Enterprise Education. Dr. Asmus recently traveled to various countries to speak with government leaders about free-market, low tax, protected property rights and free trade policies. ACU Welcomes Andrew W. Pitts

Arizona Christian University is delighted to welcome Andrew W. Pitts to the ACU faculty as the new Chair of the Department of Biblical Studies. Andrew will also serve as an Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at ACU. Andrew is currently finishing up his doctoral work in Christian Theology (New Testament) from McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, ON, Canada. He holds a B.B.S., B.Th. and M.A., all with an emphasis in biblical studies. Andrew has taught at several institutions across the continent including Hope International University (Fullerton, CA), Veritas Evangelical Seminary (Murrieta, CA), Bethel Seminary (San Diego, CA), Heritage Seminary (Cambridge, ON) and McMaster Divinity College (Hamilton, ON). Andrew has published articles in multiple peer reviewed journals including Journal of Biblical Literature, Currents in Biblical Research, Journal of Greco-Roman Christianity and Judaism, and Religions. He is the author (with Stanley E. Porter) of Fundamentals of New Testament Criticism (Eerdmans Publishing Co.) and has most recently co-edited Early Christianity in its Hellenistic Context (vols. 1-3) (Brill). He also serves (with Stanley E. Porter) as the editor of The Brill Exegetical Commentary. ACU will welcome Andrew to campus this July. He has a passion for teaching, especially integrating creative learning styles and technology into the classroom. Arizona Christian University will offer summer sport clinics for young athletes of all ages. ACU will host its first ever Football Camp on June 20th and the cost is $30 per player (camp for high school boys).
