Hobby Lobby founders David and Barbara Green to receive 4th Daniel Award for Courageous Public Faith at a Dinner in their Honor

Arizona Christian University President Len Munsil announced Thursday that Hobby Lobby Founders David and Barbara Green will receive the 4th Daniel Award for Courageous Public Faith at a banquet in their honor April 9 in Scottsdale. “We are thrilled to be able to honor the Greens for the stands they have taken for Christ as business owners,” Munsil said. “Not only have they been huge job creators who are renowned for taking care of their employees, but they have been willing to stand up to unjust governmental decrees that violate their conscience, religious freedom and commitment to the sanctity of every human life.” The Greens’ willingness to stand up for the sanctity of life through a lawsuit challenging the HHS contraceptive/abortion mandate resulted in a landmark 5-4 decision from the U.S. Supreme Court in 2014 that protects our freedom to operate a business consistent with our religious principles. Previous recipients of the Daniel Award include the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush, evangelist and Samaritan’s Purse CEO Rev. Franklin Graham, and Grammy winning recording artist Michael W. Smith. “The purpose of the Daniel Award is to honor those who have stood for Christ in our culture, no matter what sphere of influence or vocation, and to provide an example for our students who are studying for degrees in the same field,” Munsil said. “With President Bush, Franklin Graham and Michael W. Smith, we honored those who led in politics, full-time Christian ministry, and the world of arts and entertainment and music.” “Our business administration degree is one of the most popular degrees at ACU,” Munsil said....
Dr. Mary Poplin to Speak in ACU Chapel

Dr. Mary Poplin to Speak in ACU Chapel

Arizona Christian University is excited to welcome Dr. Mary Poplin to campus Thursday, February 19, to speak in our chapel service. A native of Texas, Mary Poplin earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Texas. She began her career teaching elementary school and special education, later becoming a professor at Claremont Graduate University in California where she was director of the Teacher Education Program, 1985-1995 and Dean of the School of Educational Studies, 2000-04. Between those positions Poplin worked with Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta. She has hosted a Summit on Accountability and Social Justice which sought to define the major principles inherent in accountability systems in the U.S. that have been found to be effective in closing the achievement gap between rich and poor and between racial and ethnic groups. She is the author of “Voices from the Inside: A Report on Schooling from Inside the Classroom” (1992). More recently, Poplin has begun to work on the application of the intellectual, social, and psychological principles of the Judeo-Christian worldview as they apply to higher education, particularly among culturally and linguistically diverse peoples and the poor. Poplin has published two books with Veritas through InterVarsity Press: Is Reality Secular? Testing the Assumptions of Four Global Worldviews (2013) and Finding Calcutta: What Mother Teresa Taught Me About Meaningful Work and Service (2008). Join us for chapel at 10:30 a.m. this Thursday, February 19, to hear from Dr....
AZ Shine Hosts Arizona’s Biggest Baby Shower

AZ Shine Hosts Arizona’s Biggest Baby Shower

On January 30th, Arizona Christian University’s Arizona Shine 90.9 organized Arizona’s Biggest Baby Shower, collecting thousands of baby items for Community Pregnancy Centers across Arizona. In celebration of Sanctity of Life Month, Arizona Shine listeners were encouraged to get involved in caring for their community; to fill the needs of new parents by providing diapers, baby clothes, formula, bottles, baby furniture and car seats. The Arizona Shine on-air team broadcasted the need, and listeners responded by abundantly providing for these treasured lives. Station Manager Sally Barton praised the generosity of listeners who recognized the critical need and responded. “New parents need someone to help them know how to care for their little one. The heart behind everything we do at Arizona Shine is to use this microphone to make a difference in our community. What a privilege to know that moms and dads and babies in need will have some of their physical needs met through the generosity of our listeners.” This year marks the 16th anniversary of Arizona Shine’s outreach to community pregnancy centers. Arizona Shine, a ministry of Arizona Christian University, is a nationally-recognized Christian radio station, receiving the Station of the Year Award from Christian Music Broadcasters in 2013, and most-recently named National Religious Broadcasters 2015 Station of the...
